Book Review: Sons of Fortune by Jeffrey Archer

Synopsis from Goodreads
Title: Sons of Fortune
Author: Jeffrey Archer
Publication Date: December 9th, 2002
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
In hushed maternity ward, an infant dies, while twin brothers thrive. By morning, one mother is told that her only child is doing fine. Another is told that she has tragically lost one of her sons...

Twins seperated at birth, Nathaniel Cartwright and Fletcher Davenport have been raised in different worlds, and have both thrived among the best and brightest of their generation. In an era of violent change, freee love, and blind ambition, Nat goes off to war, while Fletcher enters political combat. With each choice they make--in love and career, through tragedy and triumph--their lives mirror one another...until a high-profile murder case brings them together. Until a high-stakes political battle turns them into rivals. Until a decades-old secret is exposed...and two powerful men must confront their bonds of fate and fortune.
My Review
It was an okay read. Knowing Jeffrey Archer's work, I expected the book to be filled with suspense and action. However, it was more like a realistic drama. The storyline was fast paced  and easy to read, but it was lacking a climax.. the developments and twists in the story were minimal; it was such a disappointment.
Fletcher and Nat were separated at birth, where Fletcher ended up with the Davenport's, a well established family. Nat, on the other hand, was raised by his birth parents, the Cartwright's, whom although were economically challenged, were very caring and loving towards their son.
They both grew up to be well-respected men, they married the women they love,  and are both lucky to have loyal best friends. All in all, they were fortunate enough. Both brothers met each other during their political battle against each other. They were rivals and were both liked by many people around them, so the competition was pretty tough.  As the story progressed, Nat's and Fletcher's journeys had major set-backs.. they both had challenges to overcome, and a high-profile murder case to fight.
While reading the book, I enjoyed it at first, but then, I was desperately waiting for the storyline to pick up its pace, but it was just too dull. Even when there were major events that happened in the story, it wasn't as effective.
I was also anticipating some action, ESPECIALLY when the brothers got to find out that they were related and twins, but it wasn’t even a big deal to them.
Overall, the book was fast-paced and it has some interesting aspects, but it lacked a lot for me.

Apology and a Book Review for: Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff kinney

Dear Book-Geeks

I would like to apologize for not updating my blog for quite a while now, but am BACK!
However, I would be slower than usual because I've started working and I realize it hinders my reading pace :D.
As you can all notice, I did not stick with my reading plan. To be honest, I hate knowing what I'll be reading next, so I decided to keep my TBR pile a mystery as I like the anticipation and suspense of starting a new book after finishing my current one.

That's all for an update, so here comes the book review:

Synopsis from Goodreads
Title: Diary of a Wimpy kid
Author: Jeff Kinney
Publication Date: April 1st, 2007
Publisher: Abrams Books for Younf Readers

Greg records his sixth grade experiences in a middle school where he and his best friend, Rowley, undersized weaklings amid boys who need to shave twice daily, hope just to survive, but when Rowley grows more popular, Greg must take drastic measures to save their friendship.

My Review
Absolutely loved it. Such a simple and funny read.
It was a good book to start with after my reading slump. The storyline was light and quick; Gregory is a sarcastic young boy who is deperate to be noticed at school. The storyline is in the form of a "diary" or a journal as he likes to call it. He writes down his life experiences in which he struggles to do something out of his life.

Definitely recommended especially for preteen readers. Get it for your younger siblings or your children :D.. adults can read it too to brighten up their day.

Sorry! and a little update

Dear Book-Geeks,

I would like to apologize for not sticking with the reading plan I've created for August because honestly, my reading mood was and still is kindda off, and I am in a bleh state lately. Hopefully, I will soon get my enthusiasm back, and start on reading many great books again.

I'm currently reading Need by Carrie Jones, but it's a slow process :P; there is nothing wrong with the book, it actually is a good read, but like I said, my mood is off. When I'm done with it, I'll post my review.

A little update about me:

I'll actually start working on the 18th of Sept, 2011, which am kindda excited about and a little bit nervous. It'll be a large first step towards my career path after my recent graduation. I hope I do well! :D.... I'll try and keep you updated.

Book Review: a million little pieces by James Frey

Synopsis from Goodreads
Title: a million little pieces
Author: James Frey
Publication date: December 3rd, 2007 / Original April 15th, 2003
Publisher: John Murray

The electrifying opening of James Frey's debut memoir, A Million Little Pieces, smash-cuts to the then 23-year-old author on a Chicago-bound plane "covered with a colorful mixture of spit, snot, urine, vomit and blood." Wanted by authorities in three states, without ID or any money, his face mangled and missing four front teeth, Frey is on a steep descent from a dark marathon of drug abuse. His stunned family checks him into a famed Minnesota drug treatment center where a doctor promises "he will be dead within a few days" if he starts to use again, and where Frey spends two agonizing months of detox confronting "The Fury" head on

My Review

A disturbing yet a brilliant read. I know that these two words contradict each other, but they’re true. The book started with a bang in which James Frey explicitly explains about his state in an airplane which was honestly gory and disgusting; it did not stop there though .
It was my first time reading a memoir of a person who used to be a drug addict, so most of the things in the book were shocking. The book contained disturbing graphical images, which made it an extreme read. However, it truly depicts the life of an addict, and what hardships he or she goes through trying to get clean. Also, a million little pieces contained a lot of mixed emotions: anger, sadness, disgust, love, lust, sympathy, and happiness.
It was interesting to read about Frey’s time at the Treatment Center. I was able to witness his dramatic transformation along the story. Seeing how his reactions, beliefs, and thoughts change and improve while he starts to open his eyes and learn about life all over again was captivating. The story was touching and sad as well as inspirational and vital.
I definitely enjoyed reading about the different characters in the book, especially Leonard (Frey’s best friend at the center), Lilly (a girl he likes at the center) and Miles (a judge as well as Frey’s roommate at the center). It was nice knowing about them and learning about how hard their life had been.
What I did not enjoy about the book though, was that Frey kept repeating some stuff over and over again. I know that it was his way of writing in which he was trying to make the book more meaningful and intense, but the repetition was a little bit overwhelming. Also, at the beginning, the book was a bit confusing because there were no quotations, so it got hard when there were conversations. I guess the style of writing was new to me, so it took me quite a while to get used to it; however, overall, the book still captured me; it was brilliant.
I know that there are issues about the truthfulness about the memoir which made it a controversial topic. Nevertheless, it did not bother me at all because the book still had many things to teach. I believe that a million little pieces can be a good guide to help many people with addiction.

General: August books that I can't wait to get my hands on

Hello Book Geeks :)
There are many amazing books that are released or going to be released on the month of August 2011. I can't wait to have them added to my collection and devour them; the covers and the stories are all captivating. I don't know if I'll buy any book anytime soon, but if I do, I'll make sure to own the books that are going to be mentioned in this post. I'll try to do this segment every month in which I state the books I would love to have (like a month's wishlist). Most of the books are going to be of the Young Adult genres because they are what I mostly tend to read , so expect a lot of those. HOWEVER, I do read some adult books, so don't worry about not seeing any at all in my collection.

  • The first book is Bloodline by Richelle Mead (Bloodline #1)

It's a new series by her in which some characters of the Vampire Academy series are continued in this, which is lovely. I haven't finished reading Vampire Academy, but I'm happy to know that it won't definitely end, just that the protagonist won't be Rose anymore. However, this is the book the I mostly anticipate and pine for among the other August books. This book is different than Vampire Academy in the sense that it focuses more into the human world rather than the vampire.. Hence, the main character is sent to an academy in the human world, which seems interesting enough!
The cover is not really a favorite, but acceptable.

  • The second book is The Near Witch by Victoria Shwab
This can be a creepy book. It's mostly about finding the missing children. Obviously, from the title, there is a witch involved.  An old story is being told to  children in order to scare them, if I'm not wrong, about a witch being lonely and looking for company. However, this story becomes true, and children do actually disappear from their beds.. and the main characters have to find them and find out the reasons why. I adore this cover with the purple hair, white dress, and clear drapes. Oh and it's a debut novel.

The other two, I do not know much about, but their covers captivated me.

  • Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake (Anna Dressed in Blood #1)
Wow look at the cover.. this is my favorite of the month of August... and the title, WOW!.. I really want this book; it is definitely on my wishlist!

  • Possession by Gretchen McNeil
I've seen this in many other blogs, so I got interested :P and this cover is ranked # 2

That is all.. thnx for reading

To Be Read (TBR) August, 2011 Books

Hello Book-Geeks
I decided to organize my to be read pile wherein I choose 4 books from my bookshelf to read in each month. I believe that by planning this, I would be able to go over my pile pretty quickly and neatly. Probably, if this worked out, I might do this every month. If it also went pretty well, I would start to organize a theme for each month, but I did not do so for August.

The following four books I've chosen will be read in order.
Click on the titles for the synopsis from Goodreads!
1. A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
2. Need by Carrie Jones (Need #1)
3. Divergent by Veronica Roth
4. Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr (Wicked Lovely #1)

Hope this works out! Expect a review for A million Little Pieces soon, but not too soon :P

Book Review: Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

Synopsis from Goodreads

Title: Just Listen
Author: Sarah Dessen
Publication Date: 6th of April, 2006
Publisher: Viking Juvenile

Last year, Annabel was "the girl who has everything"—at least that's the part she played in the television commercial for Kopf's Department Store. This year, she's the girl who has nothing: no best friend because mean-but-exciting Sophie dropped her, no peace at home since her older sister became anorexic, and no one to sit with at lunch. Until she meets Owen Armstrong. Tall, dark, and music-obsessed, Owen is a reformed bad boy with a commitment to truth-telling. With Owen's help, maybe Annabel can face what happened the night she and Sophie stopped being friends.

My Review
It was an enjoyable summer and light read. It is the first book I’ve ever read of Sarah Dessen’s and it definitely won’t be the last.

Just listen is about a girl called Annabel, who is viewed and known as “The girl who has everything”, a popular best friend, a seemingly perfect family, a popular reputation for being the beautiful model. However, it all ended after one incident at a party she was attending last summer. She lost her friendship with Sophie, her reputation was tampered, and is totally alone. This incident traumatized Annabel, which her solution to it was isolate herself  the rest of the summer believing everything would be okay after returning back to school. Instead, her perfect plan backfired wherein she found herself alone and judged by everyone around her. Which also eventually, she still believes that not talking about it is still for the best, which in reality, she was lying to herself and to the people around her.
One day, she meets this boy, Owen, who is a music freak.. He is addicted to it. He teaches her that there are many things to learn in life and where she can make options for herself instead of sticking with just one that might as well suffocate her. Other than that one incident, she also has issues at home in which her sister Whitney has eating disorder, and her parents were on denial of everything that’s going on around them, well maybe, mostly her mother. The whole plot is about Annabel's life after that incident and how she would be able to learn more about herself.

Character: Annabel can be relatable, but she still was very annoying to me. I just wanted her to speak up and say what’s on her mind. However, it’s the whole purpose of this book, where Annabel is in this journey trying to figure out who she really is and who she can be. Owen, was this sweet boy, but not so sweet to the point of being TOO perfect. He was realistic, and he also has some issues of his own. Whitney, Annabel’s sister, was dark, but has this unique character that makes you want to read more about.

At first, I had issues with how the story kept going back and forth between pasts and presents. Nevertheless, I was able to get over it because Sarah Dessen was able to synchronize the past and present pretty well in which I did not feel out of place. The whole story was able to be a well rounded piece of work/art.

Overall, this book is great for teens where it teaches many valuable and memorable lessons. It teach us how to be honest with ourselves, how to be able to open up to people we trust expecting them not to judge us, and how to understand and figure out ourselves. A definitely recommended read for everyone.

There are many memorable quotes I liked in the book; here are some I want to share:

“I was beginning to see, though, that the unknown wasn’t always the greatest thing to fear. The people who know you best can be riskier, because the words they say and the things they think have the potential to be not only scary but true, as well” Page 67

“It wasn’t until I was right up to him that it occurred to me this might be a mistake. But you get only so many do-overs in this life, so many chances to, if not change your past, alter your future” Page 145

“It was not the last time I would run away from my sisters. Not the last time I thought being alone was preferable. I am still the center sister. But I see it differently now. There has to be a middle. Without it, nothing can ever truly be a whole. Because it is not just the space between, but what also holds everything together” Page 333

“There comes a time in every life when the world gets quiet and the only thing left is your own heart. So you’d better learn to know the sound of it. Otherwise you’ll never understand what it’s saying” page 349

These quotes taught me a lot.. this book is filled with advices, so it’s a must read!
5/5
I know I’m always positive about my books, but I guess I choose them pretty well :P

Book Review: The DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) by Kody Keplinger

Synopsis from Goodreads

Title: The DUFF
Author: Kody Keplinger
Publication Date: September 7th, 2010
Publisher: Little Brown

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

My Review
The DUFF = the Designated Ugly Fat Friend is basically an ugly person in a group of friends. Wesley, a notorious bad boy, also known as a man-whore, gave that title to Bianca, a short and cynical girl. He tries approaching her one weekend at a club called the Nest in order to get close to her hot and cute friends, Jessica and Casey. Bianca hates his guts and is grossed out by his way of "lifestyle".

However, all of it will change once Bianca's life turns upside-down. She is overwhelmed by her family's problem and ex-boyfriend's issues. Instead of facing reality, she turns to something UNUSUAL for distraction; she sleeps with Wesley! the boy she detests. As her problems accumulate, she regularly goes to Wesley to run away from them. However, everything got complicated; and she needs to deal with the consequences.

Hence, the book teaches us one great lesson = Do not run away from reality as it will catch up to you eventually.

What I truly love about the book is Bianca's friendship with her two best friends. They are all very supportive and loyal. Of course, they do tend to have problems like anyone else which made it seem realistic. Bianca's and Wesley's relationship and chemistry was so intense, complicated, and sweet.

I had some issues, at the beginning, with Bianca's negativity and cynicism, but I got over it once I started to get to know her better throughout the story. It was interesting to read about her life and how she was able to overcome her life's obstacles.

I was amazed to find out that the author, Kody Keplinger, just recently graduated from High School. Which also made me understand the book a little bit more because most of the phrases were "teenagery" if u know what I mean :P.. There were also a lot of acronyms, such as: "OMG, WTF"... A lot of swears too :D.....These things made it realistic to me as the protagonist is a teenage girl afterall.

Overall, amazing book and a page turner. there were a lot of times where I laughed and squealed as it was sweet and cute! definitely a recommended book. This was a great debut by Keplinger!

Book Review: Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer (Twilight Saga #4)

Synopsis from Goodreads

Author: Stephanie Meyer

Publisher: Atom

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or to pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fates of two tribes hangs.
Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating, and unfathomable, consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella's life-first discovered in Twilight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse—seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed... forever?
The astonishing, breathlessly anticipated conclusion to the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic that has entranced millions

My Review
I'm so glad I read this book before the movie that will come out on November 2011! After reading Breaking Dawn, I can't wait to see how it turns out on the screens because I expect it to be EPIC!

My Thoughts:
I can't believe I'm done with the series. I don't understand why many people hated this book saying that it shouldn't even exist. I say ignore those comments as this book was fantastic. It wraps everything up pretty well, and I actually did not anticipate that, so it made me thrilled to know that everyone ends up being happy.
Everything changed to the better; Bella isn't whiny anymore nor a damsel in distress! which of course all of you will be ecstatic about that.
I did not want the story to end; I was literally sad... and I wanted more things to develop.
I'm also glad that the romance between Bella and Edward wasn't so gooey the whole time.. just at the beginning of the book though.

Overall, in Breaking Dawn, you get to see how strong a family bond can get, and it is important to know that this kind of bond cannot be easily broken.

Love love love the Twilight Saga... I know that there are many haters out there, but it was still the series that made me fall in love with reading again! I'm so sad that the saga ended, but also happy it ended pretty well! Stephanie Meyer.. I LOVE YOU for creating a magnificent series!

General.. and a statement!

Hello Book-Geeks,

Well as I mentioned in my earlier post, I've went to the second had bookstore, House of Prose, and bought (a million little pieces by James Frey).. Guess WHAT?
it's was a birthday gift given to someone. There was a congratulatory letter written on the first page, and it was kindda sad.
I would feel bad if my friend sold a book I'd given her as a birthday present :(...
I feel that it would be too precious... maybe it's just me, but I did feel bad..

I've taken a picture of it to show you.. but I've blurred the names out so that no one would find out about them :P
I knw the picture is a bit dark, but it's just a statement that I would like to share with everyone..

Book Haul: July 19, 2011

I went to House of Prose today, a second-hand book shop here in Dubai... I loove this place, u'll usually find books that aren't around in the large bookstores. The amazing thing  about this shop is that they provide a 50% refund whenever u want to return a book.. there is absolutely no time limit to that offer. I've returned a couple of books and bought 1 new book from them which is:
A million little pieces by James Frey... which is memoir of the author about drugs and stuff, and I can't wait to read it and post my review.. The cover in real life is way better than it shows in here which can be blinding *.*

Then, I went to the supermarket and got 1 book as well from their TINY book section... I've heard a lot of good things about this series especially by a Youtuber whom I seem to stalk watching his videos and reading his blogs on a daily basis... He is called Daniel Marks AKA Dannymarksya. Well, back to the series, I've just bought the first book which is:

Unholy Ghost by Stacia Kane... this really does sound fascinating and thrilling. It is definitely my type of book.
Although the other cover really looks amazing.. but i guess they don't sell that cover here in UAE, unless I order it off Amazon.. Here's a glimpse of the other cover.. I love love love  dark covers

Well, which cover do you prefer... the one I have or the other?

That is it for my tiny book haul, until next time..

Book Review: Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer (Twilight Saga #3)

Synopsis from Goodreads

Title: Eclipse
Author: Stephanie Meyer
Publication Date: January 1st, 2007
Publisher: Atom

As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob—knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

My Review

Since everyone knows pretty much about the Twilight Saga and  Eclipse, it would be sensible of me not to write what the plot is all about. I know am way behind the bandwagon on this, but here are some of my thoughts about the book.

This was my least favorite among the first two books. However, it did make me smile at certain parts. The ending was cute and cheerful; Alice was so cute with her enthusiasm and I am glad that everything worked out well in this book. Of course, Jacob is still my favorite character with all his goofiness and silliness; as usual, he did break my heart at times. As for Edward, he was a bit cheesy at times where he keeps on and on saying that Bella is his soul, life, and heart "You are my only Bella" yada yada... *EEEeeshh*.. this can be sweet, but it was too much in the book it made me cringe. Still, I like him to be with Bella, they do suit each other, and their relationship is kindda sweet. Of course it would be great! only if their romance could be toned down a bit. I believe that Eclipse was just an extra book; it did not complete the story at all, just some parts...
Other than the cheesiness, I was not a big fan of flashbacks, and this did store a lot of it.. with Rosalie, Jasper, and the Wolves.

I still love the twilight saga that is why I still gave it a 3/5 :D

PS. Even though Edward was too gooey, am still rooting for Team Edward :P

Book Review: Red Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells

Synopsis from Goodreads

Book Title: Red-Headed Stepchild
Author: Jaye Wells
Publication Date: April 2nd, 2009
Publisher: Orbit

In a world where being of mixed-blood is a major liability, Sabina Kane has the only profession fit for an outcast: assassin. But, her latest mission threatens the fragile peace between the vampire and mage races and Sabina must scramble to figure out which side she's on. She's never brought her work home with her---until now.

This time, it's personal.

My Review

The story introduces us to a world of fairies, vampires, demons, humans, and even mages (mages are like witches and warlocks, but here in the book.. they do not form circles and cast magic that lasts for HOURS to complete -.- .. No… here, they tend to use spells to attack people on the spot; Just flip their fingers and BOOM!).. SO with all these creatures in one book, it sounds so typical! but do not be fooled because Red-Headed Stepchild is going to blow your minds off.

Sabina Kane, the main character, is half mage and half vampire. Vampires and mages don’t  like each other  very well (I mean REALLY DON’T LIKE each other), so it was a forbidden act committed by her parents when they fell in love and brought her to this world. Her parents died before she  even gets to meet them, so she was raised by her grandmother (Lavinia Kane, from her mother’s side) who is one of the royal vampires. Vampires are known to have red hair and it gets darker when they get older. As for Sabina she has a mixture of red and black streaks; you can see it at the cover of the book ( I love that mixture, it looks so alluring). As a result, Sabina is an outcast and is perceived to be a freak by other vampires, so she was raised to be an assassin which is a profession that obviously fits her. She even detests all mages because Lavinia fed her these lies that her father’s family abandoned her. Sabina dedicates her life to serve Lavinia just to gain her acceptance, hence, she will do ANYTHING for her even if it will cost her, her own life.

Sabina’s latest mission was to spy on, then assassinate a half demon vampire, Clovis, who tries to unite all the creatures together and create a peaceful world. However,  in Lavinia’s case, she believes that Clovis is trying to gain power and jeopardize their race. Whichever is true, you’ll find out once you read the book. Other than the mission, Sabina has a demon, Giguhl, living with her, and a handsome mage, Adam, that stalks her. Her life gets so complicated once she accepts the mission. She will stumble upon many unexpected events, unravel unwanted truths, gain additional powers, and will have to find out who to really follow.

This book was SO intense where my LOVE for it can’t be put into words. Giguhl was the funniest character I have ever read about(LITERALLY FUNNY). I swear to God that there are incidents that made me laugh for a whole 2 minutes, which I rarely do with books.  Sabina was exceptionally witty with her actions and comments. She is a very strong character in which she won’t fall down without a good fight. Adam was okay, probably will be more fun in the next book. Clovis was the dangerously hot creature; he was so dark and sexy. As for Lavinia, I really wanted to strangle her to death; I hate her SOO much.

Also, I have to say that this book is FULL, I mean FULL of action. Fights never seem to stop only for a little while. AWEESOMEEE

The whole concept of the story was fascinating, and some of it really made me think. Sabina is torn between choosing her own path, or following her grandmother’s just to gain her acceptance. It is sad that there are many people in this world facing these issues. Sometimes gaining people’s acceptance and love is a person’s LIFE goal, which is CRAZY. Life is unfair (I know it’s cliché, but it’s true) where people are not living the life they want, just because of obstacles  they face, even if these obstacles are people. It is nice to make people happy with our actions once in a while, but we do not have to go overboard doing it because it WILL somehow end badly (not just physically, but psychologically as well).

Overall, I love this book wherein I held this book tightly after finishing it, not expecting to feel that way towards a book at all. I was literally trying to recap everything that's happened to create a clear picture of it in my mind. It made me thrilled, cry, laugh, and overly excited.
I intensely recommend this book

Currently Reading: Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells

I've started this book on the 8th of July. Well  I am not done with it yet because I was satisfying my TV Shows addiction *wink wink*. I was watching Castle season 3 most of the time on my computer :D, this show really makes me laugh where it became one of my favorite detective TV shows, other than Law & Order and Cold Case. Well, lets get back to the book, shall we. The main character, Sabina (which, by the way, I love her name) cracked me up here and there; I can assure you that when you read the book, you'll be able to stumble upon many funny scenes where you'll laugh your souls out (well I guess I easily laugh at things, so it might just be me :P).  Of course I am not fully done with the book, so expect a full review in a couple of days. I'll try my best on providing a fairly good review, as I said, I am not a professional, so I just share what I think about the book. I am not like other book bloggers who like write amazing reviews, so I guess if you want something simple and straight to the point, you can follow me and read my reviews :P

Tiny Book Haul July 09, 2011

Hello everyone,

Well today I have actually went out to pay off my phone bill, and I wasn't planning on buying books. I have promised myself AND my best friend that I won't be buying any books untill October so that I would be able to finish off what I have in my TBR pile. So basically, the bookstore is close to the place I was heading to to pay off my bill.. *sigh* .. I told myslef " hmm.. I'm just going to browse the books they have and not buy anything", well i think things did not go as planned *smile sheepishly*. I bought four books, which basically was okay right? :P. I just bought some books I did not have in my collection, and I have to say that they're not new in the book world :P and none of them is from 2011; maybe just 1..

The books I bought are:

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr (Wicked Lovely #1)
Betrayed by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast (House of Nights #2)
Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Jenyon  (Dark Hunter 0.5 prequel)

For synopsis, you can click on the titles, and they will direct you to goodreads, as the website is the greatest place to visit for book summaries.

I'll make sure to post some more hauls in the future.. please bear with me if the books are old to you.. Once I get to read the pile of books that I have, I'll be on track with everyone. Hope you enjoy this post.. cya

Book Review: The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting (The Body Finder #1)

Synopsis from Goodreads
Title: The Body Finder
Author: Kimberly Derting
Publication Date: 2010
Publisher: HaperTeen

Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her “power” to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers. Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he’s claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him. Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay’s intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she’s falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself

My Review

I have to say that this book is definitely one of the best YA thriller novel. It was so intense and addictive wherein the suspense was keeping me on my toes the whole time. The Body Finder is about a high school girl called Violet who can hear and sense the echoes of dead bodies; not just humans, but animals as well. Hence, with each dead body there is a killer, and she is able to sense them too for they are imprinted by the dead people's echoes. The real story begins as a serial killer is on the loose killing young girls around the country, but it happens way too often in the city Violet lives in. Her ability puts her in a dangerous situation where she now is a wanted prey by the criminals. It was really thrilling and amazing. It also wraps up pretty well (I loved the ending ;) )
Overall, absolutely a great and recommended read :)
